In our last blog, we began tackling some common skin care blunders that may be preventing you from having the complexion you want. As a Boulder dermatologist, we’ve heard it all when it comes to old wives tales and myths about skin care. Today we’re back to tackle some more common skin care myths that could be sabotaging your skin without you even realizing it.
- If you leave a face mask on overnight, you’ll get more bang for your buck! Sorry, Charlie – We wish this were true. You should only use the face mask as directed because they’re designed to deliver a potent dose of ingredients into the skin quickly. If you overdo it, you’ll find yourself with skin irritation or even breakouts!
- If your foundation has SPF in it, you’re safe to go out into the sun without additional sunscreen on your face. False! Especially here in sunny Colorado, you should definitely still apply a layer of sunscreen underneath your makeup. You should be wearing a sunscreen with at least SPF 30 on your face every day or you’re not getting enough protection.
- You should just buy your best friend’s favorite eye and skin creams. Actually, one size does not fit all here! Everyone has different eye and skin issues. You should speak with your Boulder dermatologist to determine what skin and eye creams will work best for your skin.
- Extractions are the best way to get rid of those pesky blackheads. False! Pressing and pulling on your poor pores can cause scarring. Use a gentle acid peel or retinol at home and that will be enough to unclog your pores.
