Looking for a dermatologist in Boulder? Kallgren Dermatology Clinic has been serving the people of Boulder since 2006 and carries several high-quality brands of skin care products. One of these product lines is EltaMD sunscreen. These physical barrier sunscreens protect against both UVA and UVB rays providing full protection. Sometimes you end up getting a sunburn despite your best efforts. Last week we looked at what happens to your skin when you get a sunburn and this week we’ll look at the best ways to treat your sunburn.
- The first thing you should do when you realize you have gotten too much sun is to get out of the sun. If you can see yourself getting pink, you will likely have more sunburn developing over the next 4 to 6 hours.
- Drink some water, consider it hydrating your skin from the inside out. You skin needs water to heal and so it will pull water to the skin. The rest of your body still needs water so drink extra water for a few days to make sure your whole body has enough water to function properly.
- Moisturize Not only will some cool cream or aloe vera feel great, it will give your skin some surface moisture to help cool the burning. The American Academy of Dermatology warns against using products with petroleum, benzocaine or lidocaine. They say petroleum will trap heat at the skin and the other two can irritate your skin.
